The Mingus Gem and Mineral Club will be hosting the 36th Annual Verde Valley Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show Friday, March 11 through
Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds located at
800 E Cherry St. in
Cottonwood,
AZ (at the intersection of
12th St. and E. Cherry St., 1 block north of State Route 89A)
The Mingus Gem and Mineral Club was founded in 1974 as a non-profit organization and each year conducts the Verde Valley Gem, Mineral, & Jewelry Show for the purpose of learning and sharing knowledge of lapidary arts and Earth sciences.
The 2011 show will feature a variety of museum like educational displays including extensive specimen collections and creations from local artists. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view free demonstrations in the subjects of geology, lapidary & jewelry making throughout the weekend.
The show will also host a children’s area with multiple activities for kids of all ages. Every child will receive a FREE starter rock & mineral collection that they assemble themselves. Kids will also have the opportunity to try their hand at metal detecting, play and be photographed in the pet a rock garden, win a prize at the spinning wheel, and learn some interesting facts about geology.
30+ vendors will also be on hand selling a variety of gem, mineral, & fossil specimens, metaphysical items, high quality jewelry, rough rock & crystals, rock slabs, rockhounding equipment, jewelry supplies & components, and lapidary supplies & equipment.
Each attendee will receive a complimentary grand prize raffle ticket with paid admission. 1 grand prize raffle drawing will be held at the end of each day. The grand prizes are: a 9” crystal cave, an 11” cube calcite cluster and a 13” amethyst cave.
The show hours are
9am-5pm on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12, and
10am-4pm on Sunday, March 13. Admission is $2 per adult, and $1 for students with a valid ID. Children 13 & under get in free with a paid adult. Parking is free. |
